Maofeng Mountain is located in the northeastern part of Guangzhou City, at the junction of Taihe Town and Liangtian Town in Baiyun District. It stands 152.9 meters higher than Baiyun Mountain, making it one of the tallest peaks in Guangzhou. The mountain boasts a high forest coverage rate, beautiful scenery, and a tranquil environment. Maofeng Mountain is divided into two scenic areas: the Summit Scenic Area and the Tongluowan Scenic Area.

These two areas are not interconnected, so visitors intending to climb the main peak should not enter the Tongluowan Scenic Area. Instead, they should take a motorbike from Tongluowan Reservoir to the Summit Scenic Area, which is three kilometers away, and purchase a ticket there to ascend Maofeng Mountain’s main peak. Those with good physical stamina may choose to visit the Tongluowan Scenic Area before heading to the Summit Scenic Area; otherwise, they can simply enjoy the Summit Scenic Area, as it is less common to visit only the Tongluowan Scenic Area.

The approximate route for the Summit Scenic Area is: Mountain Gate – Ancient Temple at Half Mountain – Jiulong Lake – Wangyun Pavilion – Bai Zhang Cliff – Main Peak Single Pine Top (534 meters), with the entire round trip taking about 3 hours. Both the Ancient Temple and the Millennium Ancient Path are worth visiting. Next to the temple is a small square selling local specialties, including local eggs and freshly picked plums, among a variety of other items, creating a lively atmosphere.

The Ancient Path refers to the mountain road itself, which is paved with hemp stones from the northern foothills to the peak, consisting of 637 steps. The steep and winding nature of the Ancient Path is quite rare, and the entire path takes about 2 hours to walk round trip. Unfortunately, there is no observation point at the summit; upon reaching the top, one is still surrounded by trees, with only a small pavilion offering a limited view.

Additionally, visitors are highly recommended to try tofu pudding and snails while climbing, which are considered local specialties here. Although Maofeng Mountain is not as famous as Baiyun Mountain and its facilities are not as complete, it is farther from the city center, offering better air quality and a more natural environment than Baiyun Mountain. Moreover, there are fewer tourists, and some of the hiking trails are wild paths, allowing visitors to enjoy the pleasure of hiking.

The opening hours are from 8:00 to 17:00 all year round. A must-see tip: the last bus from the mountain back to the subway terminal departs at 18:00, after which there is no transportation down the mountain, so it is important to plan the hiking time accordingly.
