The Wang Yuyang Memorial Hall – Zhongqin Ancestral Temple is located in Xincheng Town, Huantai County. The site of the Zhongqin Ancestral Temple was originally built in 1588, the 16th year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty, to commemorate Wang Yuyang’s great-grandfather Wang Chongguang. It has a history of more than 400 years. The entire building is of brick and wood structure and is divided into two courtyards on the east and west. It maintains a typical Ming Dynasty architectural style. The museum has seven exhibition rooms and a stone carving garden. Among them, the stone carving exhibition room exhibits 185 engraved stones above the national third level. The exhibition room on Wang Yuyang’s life details his life of being an official and constantly chanting. Wang Yuyang, with the courtesy name Zizhen, literary name Ruan Ting, and alias Yuyang Shanren, is from Xincheng County, Shandong Province (now Huantai). He was a famous poet in the early Qing Dynasty and was promoted to Minister of the Ministry of Punishments. In his spare time from official duties, he devoted himself to writing poetry and prose and presided over the poetry circle for 50 years. Emperor Kangxi once collected three hundred of his poems and designated them as ‘Imperial View Collection’. His poems, essays, and ci-poems total dozens of kinds and more than 560 volumes, and he is hailed as the master of poetry of a generation. The stone carving garden is built on the basis of the east courtyard of the Zhongqin Ancestral Temple and combined with ancient garden architecture. The two giant Taihu stones ‘Cangyun’ and ‘Zhenyu’ of Zhang Yanghao, Minister of the Ministry of Rites in the Yuan Dynasty and a sanqu writer, and the stone carving ‘Shuiyue Songfeng’ are also displayed in the garden for tourists to view. The Sishigongbao Memorial Archway adjacent to the Zhongqin Ancestral Temple was built in 1619, the 47th year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty. It is the only brick archway in China. Facing south, it is majestic. It combines ancient architecture, carving, and calligraphy art and has high cultural relic value. Opening hours: open all year round from 08:30 to 11:30 and from 13:30 to 17:00.
