Beigong National Forest Park is located in the western part of Beijing city, and it is one of the forest parks closest to the city center. The park is planted with a large area of flowers and maple trees, allowing visitors to enjoy different vibrant colors in every season. From the Wangjing Pavilion on the mountain top, one can overlook the panoramic view of the capital city and even catch the sunrise and sunset over the Jingji Plain.
The park’s area is not large, with a depth of about 1.2 kilometers and a width of several hundred meters. The scenic area includes gardens, lakes, and eight small hills, all accessible by walking. The entire mountain climbing route takes about 3 hours, with the hiking route taking approximately 2 hours, which is relatively easy. The recommended route is: Xiaojiangnan – Maple Forest Road – Xuanhui Tower – Lan Cui Tai – Ban Xia Ge – Lang Po Ding – Wangjing Pavilion – Pet Paradise – Beigong Mountain Villa. Xiaojiangnan: A place to admire lotus flowers in summer. It is the first scenic spot visitors encounter at the entrance of the park. There is a lake with a length and width of over a hundred meters, surrounded by bridges and pavilions in the style of Jiangnan gardens. The winding paths are shaded by green trees, creating a tranquil environment where visitors can also fish. There is a lotus pond within Xiaojiangnan, with a large area of lotus flowers that can be admired and photographed during the summer. Maple Forest Road: A place to see red leaves in autumn. Maple Forest Road is also an important scenic spot in the park. Every autumn, the road and the nearby Yanxia Ridge are covered with red maple leaves, making it another good place to appreciate the maple scenery in Beijing. Wangjing Pavilion: Overlooking the panoramic view of Beijing. Another Wangjing Pavilion is located on the top of Zijingshan, the main peak on the sunny side. From the Wangjing Pavilion, one can see the panoramic view of Beijing with a very broad view. Additionally, there is a Pet Paradise built within the park, which houses animals such as monkeys and antelopes, allowing visitors to observe or feed them. The park has a rich distribution of flowers and forests, including Apricot Flower Village, Cherry Blossom Forest, and various flower ditches and Friendship Forests scattered throughout the scenic area. From March to April, visitors can experience an array of bright colors. There are also scenic spots with religious significance and historical stories, such as Jile Peak, waiting to be explored. Must-see tips: The park hosts the ‘Beigong Colorful Leaves Festival’ from mid-October to early November each year.
