The Central Academy of Fine Arts is a higher art school directly under the Ministry of Education, established in April 1950 by the merger of the former Beiping Art Specialized School and the Fine Arts Department of the Third Department of North China University.

The academy currently has six professional schools: the School of Plastic Arts, the School of Chinese Painting, the School of Design, the School of Architecture, the School of Humanities, and the School of Urban Design, as well as a Continuing Education College and an affiliated secondary art school.

The academy, with a strong sense of historical responsibility, contemplates the overall development of Chinese art, grasps and leads the teaching practice and academic construction of Chinese art education, guides the process of Chinese art education, and has become a representative of Chinese art academies.
