Wang Yirong, a native of Fushan, Yantai City. He was a modern epigrapher. In 1899, he discovered oracle bone inscriptions and was the first to research and prove them as characters of the Shang Dynasty. This move caused a sensation in domestic and foreign academic circles and pushed the history of Chinese characters back to the Shang Dynasty more than 1700 BC, creating a new situation in the research of philology and history. Wang Yirong was born into a scholarly and official family. In 1900, when the Eight-Power Allied Forces invaded Beijing, Wang Yirong uttered the oath of ‘I cannot live unjustly’ and led his whole family to die heroically for the country. The Wang Yirong Memorial Hall has seven exhibition rooms, displaying more than 300 relics of Wang Yirong, including letters, correspondence, works, calligraphy, oracle bone inscriptions, etc., which are vivid and detailed.
