Shenhai Well is located at the foot of Ruanjiaba Mountain in Da’an District, Zigong City. It is a “living fossil” of traditional well salt production and a symbol of the maturity of ancient Chinese drilling techniques. Drilled in the third year of the Daoguang reign of the Qing Dynasty (1823), it reaches a depth of over 1,000 meters, leaving visitors deeply impressed by the boundless wisdom of the ancients.
Inside the scenic area, workers use traditional methods to boil and carry salt, offering a glimpse into the past. The site is expansive; a simple stroll may not provide in-depth understanding. It is recommended to hire a guide to learn extensive knowledge about salt and the historical stories of the local salt industry.
