Caishikou, historically known as the execution ground during the Qing Dynasty, is located near the Caishikou Department Store in the Xuanwu District. Beijing is abundant with hutongs, and thus numerous street corners, among which Caishikou outside Xuanwu Gate is quite famous. The notoriety of Caishikou stems from the fact that many celebrities were beheaded at this site. After the execution of criminals, their bodies were removed, and the bloodstains were covered with yellow soil.
Subsequently, vendors started selling vegetables here, leading to a thriving vegetable market, which is how Caishikou got its name. With the fall of the Qing Dynasty in 1911, the execution ground was relocated. This area gradually evolved into a bustling commercial street and transportation hub on Xuanwai Avenue. The opening hours and business status are subject to the day’s actual conditions.Caishikou: Historical Execution Site in Beijing
