Tianmen Mountain is located in Daqiao Town, Jiujiang District, Wuhu City. For thousands of years, Tianmen Mountain has attracted celebrities and literati of all dynasties to travel and compose poems with its unique mountain shape, water potential and rich historical and cultural heritage. Li Bai, a poet of the Tang Dynasty, traveled here many times and left the famous quatrain ‘Watching Tianmen Mountain’: ‘The Tianmen Mountain splits as the Chu River surges through. The green waters flow eastward and turn back here. The green mountains on both banks face each other. A single sail comes from the rim of the sun.’ There are also two rare cultural landscapes at the foot of Tianmen Mountain. One is the time-honored Tianmen Academy, which was built in 1246 AD and is as famous as Guizhi Academy in Jixi, Xihu Academy in Yingzhou and Ziyang Academy in Shexian. The other is the unique Tongfo Temple. Surrounded by mountains and rivers and with beautiful scenery, it has attracted believers from all over the country to burn incense and worship Buddha for many years. During Buddhist ceremonies, the incense is thick and pilgrims are like a tide. Therefore, it is rated as one of the new ten scenic spots in Wuhu City, ‘Tianmen Smoke and Waves’. Tianmen Mountain is originally the collective name for Dongliang Mountain and Xiliang Mountain. Opening hours: Open all year round and all day.
