The residents of Chongren Ancient Town are primarily descendants of the Qiu family, who were granted by Emperor Shenzong of the Song Dynasty. The town has preserved ancient residences from the Ming and Qing dynasties, and even earlier to the Song Dynasty. You will find temples, ancestral halls, ancient stages, residences, archways, pharmacies, shops, ancient bridges, and wells, making you feel as if you have stepped into the set of a Ming or Qing Dynasty drama. The town’s gates are tall, with uniform blue bricks and gray tiles, white walls with hard mountain tops, and high walls with deep courtyards. The lattices and doors and windows have exquisite carvings, with superb craftsmanship that is simply indescribable. The houses are adjacent to each other, and the roads are interconnected; they complement each other while also standing alone as individual chapters. The town still retains an ancient street – Zhi Street, which has preserved some of the early commercial atmosphere. On this ancient post road, a number of traditional handicraft workshops have gathered. If you are a foodie, do remember that there is Chen’s stewed duck, which appeared during the reign of Emperor Daoguang of the Qing Dynasty and has a history of 150 years, and the Xiqing tofu skin, which has a brilliant history of more than 300 years. The town is open all year round, 24 hours a day, with specific business status subject to the day’s opening conditions.
