The Datang Tribute Tea Institute, originally established in the fifth year of the Dali era during the Tang Dynasty (770 AD), is the first ‘royal tea factory’ in Chinese history dedicated to processing tea leaves for the imperial court. The current Datang Tribute Tea Institute, which is newly constructed, consists of four parts: Lu Yu Pavilion, Jixiang Temple, East Corridor, and West Corridor. Upon entering the scenic area, the entire architecture is built following the mountain terrain, presenting a grand and simple appearance from a distance, and an antique charm up close, as if stepping back a thousand years in time. Visitors can experience the profound and tranquil elegance of tea culture while enjoying the leisurely pleasure of ‘stealing a half-day’s leisure from the floating life’.
In the scenic area, the ‘Lu Yu Pavilion’ mainly displays the life of the tea sage Lu Yu and his work ‘The Classic of Tea’; ‘Jixiang Temple’ is situated opposite to ‘Lu Yu Pavilion’ from the north to the south, enshrining Manjushri Bodhisattva within; the West Corridor is composed of three major parts: celebrity anecdotes, cliff inscriptions, and the twenty-eight historians; the East Corridor reflects the historical origins of tribute tea with its content on tribute tea production, three unique tea tastings, tribute tea knowledge, and court tea art performances. The entire tribute tea institute is modeled after Tang Dynasty architecture, exuding a grand presence. There is a shopping center to the east of Lu Yu Pavilion and a tea tasting room to the west, making it a tea culture tourist area that integrates sightseeing, learning, tea tasting, and leisure, where natural landscapes and cultural connotations complement each other.
