Lijiashan Oyster Reef Marine Special Protection Area is an ocean conservation zone primarily dedicated to the protection of oyster reefs and their habitats. Lijiashan, a biological island reef formed by the accumulation of live oysters, stretches east-west, measuring 1.43 nautical miles in length and 0.9 nautical miles in width, covering an area of over 6600 acres. It is neither a mountain nor an island, submerged during high tide and revealed as an island during low tide, earning it the local nickname ‘the Sinking and Floating Mountain’.
Lijiashan is renowned for its abundant oyster production. The oyster reef’s surface is covered with live oysters, constituting a unique ecosystem. Additionally, it is home to sea anemones, conches, mud whelks, swimming crabs, shrimps, and various nearshore fish species. Besides Lijiashan itself, visitors can explore the Oyster Museum, Zhanggong Dike, Dong Zhujun Memorial Hall, and a seafood street.
Tourists can experience the joy of oyster farming and fishing, indulge in fresh seafood delicacies, and enjoy the magnificent marine scenery and unique biological reef formations. The park is a comprehensive marine conservation area that integrates scientific research, ecological protection, and tourism. It holds significant scientific and ecological value and offers a distinctive travel destination for visitors.
