Mao’er Hutong starts from Nanluoguxiang in the east and extends to Di’anmen Outer Street in the west. It is connected to Doujiao Hutong in the north and Dongbuya Bridge Hutong in the south. Named after the hat-making workshops that existed here during the Qing Dynasty, Mao’er Hutong is a place where one can admire many traditional Beijing Siheyuan and experience the authentic life of old Beijing. The well-preserved Siheyuan in Mao’er Hutong include: No. 5 Mao’er Hutong, No. 9 Mao’er Hutong (Keyuan), No. 11 Mao’er Hutong (Wen Yu’s Residence), No. 13 Mao’er Hutong (Former Residence of Feng Guozhang), No. 21 Mao’er Hutong (Site of Zitong Temple Wenchang Palace), No. 37 Mao’er Hutong (Former Residence of Wan Rong), and No. 45 Mao’er Hutong (Qing Dynasty’s Commandant’s Office).
Mao’er Hutong intersects with Nanluoguxiang at its top, with the famous Ju’er Hutong just a little further, and ends at Yandai Hutong.
