The Jiangning Weaving Museum is located in the Daxinggong area of Nanjing. It is a modern museum built on the original site of Jiangning Weaving. It is designed by Mr. Wu Liangyong, a famous architect and academician of the two academies. ‘Jiangning Weaving’ was an official institution in the Qing Dynasty that specialized in producing satin for imperial and official use. From the Kangxi period to the Qianlong period, the Jiangning Weaving Office gradually became the emperor’s southern tour palace, with an unprecedented scale.

The Jiangning Weaving Office existed for more than 260 years and witnessed the vicissitudes of the Qing Dynasty from prosperity to decline. The Jiangning Weaving Museum will reproduce the history of the Jiangning Weaving Mansion. From its establishment in the Shunzhi period of the Qing Dynasty to its abolition in the Guangxu period, the Jiangning Weaving Mansion was glorious for more than 200 years.

Emperor Kangxi made six southern tours and stayed here five times. The Jiangning Weaving Museum will exhibit the 4D version of ‘Emperor Kangxi’s Southern Tour Picture’. There is a small red building library in the Jiangning Weaving Museum. Citizens can consult materials about ‘A Dream of Red Mansions’ in the library. Multiple versions of ‘A Dream of Red Mansions’ and related exhibits of the author Cao Xueqin are also displayed.

In addition, there are also special exhibition halls for ‘A Dream of Red Mansions’ and screening halls for ‘A Dream of Red Mansions’, etc., showing Red Mansions culture in multiple ways. The Jiangning Weaving Museum houses cultural relics such as ancient Chinese dragon robes and cheongsams collected from overseas by the museum. The brocade of the Tang Dynasty is extremely precious.
