The Fangshan Global Geopark Museum in Beijing is located in Zhoukoudian Town, Fangshan District. It is the landmark building and core exhibition area of the Fangshan UNESCO Global Geopark in China. Covering an area of approximately 6.11 hectares and with a building area of about 10,000 square meters. The museum was laid on March 29, 2009 and opened on May 15, 2010. The architectural design concept of the museum is ‘earth-shattering’.


The overall building conforms to the natural terrain, interprets tectonic movements, and implies the origin of mankind. It uses local materials and fully embodies the characteristics of’respecting natural mechanisms, maintaining the original terrain, having a naturally stretched shape, and being consistent in internal and external spaces’. It has the characteristics of being educational, informative, and interesting.


The Fangshan Global Geopark Museum in Beijing has five functions: popular science education, leisure tourism, geological research, publicity and exhibition, and information exchange. The exhibition of the museum takes ‘heaven, earth, people, and harmony’ as the soul. Taking the geological changes, biological evolution, and human evolution of the Fangshan UNESCO Global Geopark in China as the main line, supported by geological knowledge, and using popular, story-telling, and accessible language as a link, it uses various modern technological means to comprehensively and multi-dimensionally display the geological heritages and landscape contents of the Fangshan UNESCO Global Geopark in China, allowing tourists to feel the power of nature and the creative function of the earth, achieving the goals of inspiring thoughts, spreading knowledge, cultivating interests, and stimulating exploration.



Opening hours: From July 19 to August 31, open from 09:00 to 16:00; From September 1 to December 31, closed all day on Monday; From September 1 to December 31, open from 09:00 to 16:00 from Tuesday to Sunday; Open from 09:00 to 16:00 on Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day.
