Bu Gao Li is located at the intersection of Shaanxi South Road and West Jianguo Road in the Luwan District, and it is a typical old-style residential complex, built by French merchants in 1930. It comprises 78 two-story brick and wood shikumen buildings, forming a complete layout of traditional alleyways. The Chinese-style archway at the entrance of the alley is quite distinctive.

The renowned author, Mr. Ba Jin, once lived here, and his former residence is located at No. 52 Bu Gao Li. It was here that he created works such as ‘Dream of the Sea’. Additionally, this place was once home to other notable figures such as Hu Huaichen, Zhang Chenbo, and Ping Hailan.
