Baoshan Temple was first built in the sixth year of Zhengde in the Ming Dynasty (1511 AD). It has a history of 500 years. After renovation, the total construction area of the temple is about 12,000 square meters, and its scale ranks first among Buddhist temples in Shanghai. The religious core area covers an area of 20 mu. The buildings include the Heavenly King Hall, bell tower, drum tower, Mahavira Hall, Guanyin Hall, Pharmacist Hall, Qielan Hall, Ancestral Hall, Buddha Hall, Sutra Depository, Dharma Hall, Abbot’s Room, Dining Hall, and monks’ dormitories. The mountain gate and square cover an area of 16 mu. The buildings include the mountain gate, east and west side gates, and corridors (with a total length of 471 meters). In addition, a supporting garden covering an area of 30 mu will be planned and constructed. There are towers, pavilions, buildings, platforms, waterside pavilions, ponds, and archways.
