Xuelan Mountain, located east of Suzhou and south of Taihu Lake, is also known as Hengshan. It was named after the Xuelan Temple built in the Song Dynasty on its summit, which reaches an elevation of 146 meters. According to a renowned Taihu Lake researcher from Wuxi, Xuelan Mountain does not rank among the 72 peaks of Taihu Lake. The true highest peak of Taihu Lake is ‘Piao Miao Peak’ located in Suzhou’s West Mountain, with an elevation of 336.
6 meters. Atop the mountain, one can see an imposing pavilion with the shining words ‘Taihu First Peak’. Locals from Taihu Town explained that Xuelan Mountain is referred to as the ‘Taihu First Peak’ due to its long-standing cultural history and abundant ecological resources. Now, Xuelan Mountain has been developed into Xuelan Ecological Park, which integrates ecological conservation, agricultural production, sightseeing leisure, vacation fitness, and scientific education into one ecological landscape park. The park is divided into two main areas: the Agricultural Ecological Landscape Area and the Historical Cultural Landscape Area, comprising ten major scenic spots and dozens of attractions. These include the Hengshan Temple Scenic Area, Immortal Cave Scenic Area, Champion Road Scenic Area, Tribute Tea Scenic Area, Xuelan Maple Viewing Scenic Area, Modern Agricultural Demonstration Scenic Area, and Sun-facing Tea and Fruit Scenic Area. Opening Hours: The park is open all year from 07:30 to 19:00.
