Wang Ganchang’s Former Residence is located at No. 44 South Street, Zhitang Town, Changshu City. Before going abroad in his youth and after returning to his homeland, Wang Ganchang would stay here whenever he visited his relatives in Zhitang, until 1936. The compound is relatively well-preserved, with three sections and three courtyards currently existing. The first section is a gatehouse, with a total width of three rooms spanning 8.22 meters and a total depth of seven bays at 5.62 meters. The second section is a hall, with a total width of three rooms at 6.73 meters and a total depth of seven bays at 6.92 meters. It features wooden beam structures that are well-preserved. The beams are flat, made of sturdy materials, and are adorned with carvings of bats, animals, and other decorative patterns. In the second courtyard, there is a side room located on the north side, which is a two-story building. The third section is a two-story building, with a total width of three rooms at 7.82 meters and a total depth of seven bays at 7.42 meters. The entire structure exhibits a distinct Late Qing Dynasty style.
