The temple was built in the late Eastern Han Dynasty and has a history of more than 1,700 years. The original temple has long been lost. It was rebuilt in 1993. The mountain gate, Heavenly King Hall, and Mahavira Hall have already taken shape. The mountain gate is built on the hillside at an altitude of 125 meters on the middle of Xiangshan Tiger’s back. The plaque of ‘Xiangshan Temple’ above the mountain gate is handwritten by Zhao Puchu, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. Climbing up from the mountain gate and crossing 45 granite steps, one enters the Heavenly King Hall with upturned eaves and corners, solemn and majestic. Climbing up further, one reaches the Mahavira Hall with grand scale and extraordinary momentum. This is a large two-story pavilion-style building. The hall is 21 meters long from east to west, 13.8 meters wide from north to south, 15.5 meters high at the back, and has a construction area of 282 square meters. With yellow walls, red windows, and carved beams and painted pillars, the styling format is in accordance with the Mahavira Hall of Lingyan Temple in Suzhou. There are east and west gardens inside the temple. There are release ponds, rockery belts, merit pavilions, etc. built in the gardens. For the convenience of believers, tourists and sightseers, there are also Buddha’s Light Mountain Villa, vegetarian restaurant, dormitory building, etc. Open all year round from 08:00 to 16:30.
