The Shanghai Textile Museum is located on the original site of Shenxin Textile Factory No. 9, which has a history of 130 years. It features three exhibition halls that showcase the historical changes of the textile industry in the Shanghai area. The museum consists of a lobby, a history hall, a collection hall, a science popularization hall, and a special exhibition hall.
It exhibits ancient bone needles from the late Paleolithic period, a well reflecting the living conditions of ancient Shanghai people 6,000 years ago during the Majiabang Culture, as well as Hanfu and Hu clothing from the Silk Road during the Western Han Dynasty.
The most valuable exhibit in the museum is a set of imported teak furniture, which includes a long table and 12 square stools. This set was used when Li Hongzhang and others established the Shanghai Machine Weaving Bureau in 1878. The Western-style furniture arrangement, combined with the Hui-style carvings of legends and peony pavilions on the legs and feet of the tables and stools, is a product of the time when European culture gradually spread to the East.
Opening hours: All year round, Tuesday to Sunday, 09:30-16:00; All year round, Monday, closed; Dragon Boat Festival, 09:30-16:00. Service facilities: Luggage storage is provided.
