Loutang Ancient Town is a secluded small town that few people visit, and many locals in Shanghai are unaware of this well-preserved ancient town within their city. Historically, the streets and alleys of Loutang Town were built along the river, earning it the saying ‘Loutang Street, crooked every way, with seven twists and eight turns and seventeen or eighteen courtyards.’ Currently, Loutang Town has largely maintained its complete street and alley layout.

Today, there are still 17 streets and alleys crisscrossing, intersecting with the water system, preserving the natural form of the ancient town’s appearance. The town retains a large number of local traditional residential clusters from the late Qing Dynasty, along with some structures, ancient trees, and other rich historical information. The opening hours and business status are subject to the actual opening conditions on the day.
