Yue Guan Peak is located to the west of the South Heavenly Gate, named for its east-west opposition with Ri Guan Peak. In ancient times, it was said that one could see the Yue State from here, hence the name Yue Guan Peak. On clear nights, one can see the myriad lights of Jinan, which is why the place is also called Wang Fu Mountain. At the peak stands Yue Guan Pavilion. On nights with a bright moon and sparse stars, one can witness the vast expanse under the bright moon, a rare beauty in the world. To the north of the pavilion, there are two stones facing each other, resembling a mountain gate, known as the West Heavenly Gate. The West Heavenly Gate is purely a natural formation, not carved by human hands. According to the Ming Dynasty’s Zhong Xing in ‘Ascending Tai Mountain Record’: ‘There are three gates of heaven in Dai, and the West Heavenly Gate is a gate of stone, a true gate of heaven,’ which refers to this place. Here, one can also enjoy the scenery of the evening glow and the Yellow River’s jade belt. Open all year round, accessible 24/7.
