May 4th Square

May 4th Square is located on the southeastern seashore of Qingdao urban area. On the square stands the fiery red sculpture ‘May Wind’ which symbolizes the urban spirit of Qingdao. It is very beautiful under the illumination of lights at night. In summer, you can enjoy the sea view here. Looking at the lighthouse on the opposite side of the bay and the sailboats parked at the Olympic Sailing Center. The sea sunset here is also very beautiful. May 4th Square was built to commemorate the ‘May 4th Movement’. The huge sculpture with the shape of a rotating and soaring ‘wind’ was built to promote patriotism and inspire people to strive for strength. It often appears in people’s vision as a landmark building of Qingdao. Walking on the square, you can sometimes see busking singers and street performers. During holidays, you may also catch the opening of the square fountain and the offshore fountain. You can also stroll along the seaside to the nearby Music Square to enjoy creative sculptures.

Must-see tips: 1. The fountain on the square and the offshore fountain are not always open. Generally, water spraying can be seen on national holidays and major festivals (such as the International Beer Festival).
2. The Music Square is more than three hundred meters southwest of May 4th Square, and the Olympic Sailing Center is one kilometer southeast. You can walk over and have a look.
