Guangyue Tower is a famous scenic spot in western Shandong. Many emperors, generals and men of letters would ascend the tower and express their feelings when passing through Liaocheng. Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty ascended the tower four times and inscribed a plaque with the words ‘Shenguang Zhongying’, meaning that the divine light of Mount Tai and the divine light of Guangyue Tower complement each other. Emperor Qianlong passed by Dongchang nine times and ascended the tower six times. He also inscribed a plaque for Guangyue Tower. According to ‘Grand Ceremonies of Southern Inspection’, Guangyue Tower is one of the thirty-six temporary imperial palaces for Emperor Qianlong’s southern inspection. The imperial palace of Qianlong is located on the second floor of Guangyue Tower. Emperor Qianlong was a rare talent in history. He composed more than 10,000 poems in his life, and composed as many as thirteen poems on Guangyue Tower alone. The inscriptions on the stele are smooth and fluent, showing high calligraphic attainments. Opening hours: Open from 09:00 to 18:00 all year round.
