Tingli Mountain House is nestled on the northeastern hillside of Zenghua Pavilion. In the past, this area was filled with towering ancient trees, providing dense shade and a cool, serene atmosphere.

Zhaoyin Mountain is abundant with flowers and birds, where the sound of birds chirping is constant throughout the day. The melodious calls of the orioles are particularly charming and pleasing to the ear. When Dai Yong, a hermit of this mountain, took a liking to the singing of the orioles, he would often carry wine and tangerines, sit alone in the green shade, and listen to the oriole’s song, finding great joy and contentment in it, never tiring of it all day long. When asked why, he replied: ‘This is a cure for the common ear and a song for the poetic soul.’ This is the origin of the famous anecdote ‘Dai Yong Enjoying Oriole Songs with Wine and Tangerines.’ It is recorded in books such as ‘Thousand Family Poems’ and ‘Elementary Annotations,’ and has become a timeless tale.

Dai Yong, an ancient musician, was often captivated by the calls of birds, and his musical compositions benefited greatly from the oriole’s song, with three pieces, ‘You Xian,’ ‘Guangling,’ and ‘Zhi Xi,’ being particularly renowned. In memory of him, the Tingli Mountain House was built. There is a couplet at the entrance that reads: ‘The sound of the spring always clears the mind, naturally attracting hermits to the mountains and forests; the oriole’s song is still in the ear, it is good to carry tangerines and wine to discuss the rise and fall.’ Open all year round from 8:00 to 17:00.
