Ms. Lu Xiaohong is a ‘practitioner of art’ with a diverse range of capabilities. Beyond her painting creations, she is more commonly known as a university teacher, curator, and department head, which overshadows her identity as an artist or painter by training. Undoubtedly, this shift in her roles has quietly altered our perspective and mindset when examining her artistic creations.
The exhibition, titled ‘The Novice Female Driver,’ reflects not only the artist’s modesty or self-deprecation but also her spirit of exploration towards artistic innovation and new things. It is not a mocking statement like ‘new female drivers are online, please make way,’ but rather an embodiment of ‘the courage to hit the road’ and ‘remembering why we started.’ Lu Xiaohong’s works are imbued with dreamlike colors and imaginative compositions. She excels at employing fantastical imagery and scenes to create an atmosphere that transcends reality. Vibrant colors and bizarre spectacles come to life under her brush, with a unique sense of mystery subtly emerging in her paintings, transporting the viewer into a dreamlike world.
