The Sun Wu Kong Art Museum covers an area of 2400 square meters, fully employing traditional Chinese garden design techniques, combined with the existing topography, geomorphology, and surrounding environment. Its functional layout follows a Ming and Qing style, creating an elegant and natural environment that meets the needs of people from all over the world for appreciation, touring, and rest. The museum is divided into: Family Hall, Art Hall, Screening Hall, and Monkey Opera Hall, etc., reflecting the advocacy of Chinese monkey culture by the ‘Sun Wu Kong Family’ for nearly a century, their special contributions to monkey opera art, and the glorious artistic process, with a total of more than 400 pieces of precious cultural relics and theatrical supplies. The museum also exhibits costumes, props, and stills from the TV series ‘Journey to the West’ donated by China Central Television and the China Television Drama Production Center; the history of monkey opera in China and the biographies of many monkey opera artists; various materials and ‘Journey to the West’ art pieces; calligraphy and inscriptions by art masters such as Zhao Puchu, Qu Wu, Liu Hai Su, Guan Shanyue, Lu Yanshao, Sha Menghai, Shu Tong, Wan Lai Ming, Yu Zhenfei, Cao Yu, Yao Xueyin, and Hou Baolin; displays of ‘Journey to the West’ novels and ‘Journey to the West’ research books, picture albums from various eras and countries; the large stone carving ‘Three Kings Stone’, a relic from the Yuan Dynasty Taoist temple, and the facial makeup and golden cudgel of the ‘Sun Wu Kong Family’ through the generations; a two-meter-tall giant flower-carved wine pot and a large purple sand teapot, etc. The entrance plaque is inscribed with ‘Sun Wu Kong Art Museum’ by the famous calligrapher Liu Hai Su. Turning right after entering the hall is the ‘Journey to the West’ art corridor, which displays the 81 trials experienced by Tang Sanzang and his disciples on their journey to the West through murals, wall carvings, and character sculptures. The ‘Journey to the West’ corridor is inscribed by Bing Xin. The corridor pillars bear inscriptions from famous figures. The images displayed inside and outside the art museum fully embody the harmonious unity of classical and modern art.
