The Chuanchang River is located in the east of the Lixiahe area in central Jiangsu Province. It starts from the Tongyang Canal in the west of Hai’an County in the south and passes through Fu’an, Anfeng, Dongtai, Liuzhuang, Yancheng, and Shanggang to Sheyang River in Funing in the north. It was built in the first year of Dali in the Tang Dynasty (766). It extends north and south along the west side of the Changfeng Weir (the predecessor of the Fan Gong Embankment). In the fifth year of Xianchun in the Southern Song Dynasty (1269), Li Tingzhi, the governor of Huainan in the two Huaihe regions, rebuilt it. In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, in order to connect all the salt fields in southern Huainan, it was dredged many times and was fully connected in 1738. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, it was cut and dredged many times. The river is 176 kilometers long and 40-70 meters wide. Along the way, it passes through Doulong Port, Xinyang Port, Huangsha Port, etc. It is a drainage channel to the sea in the Lixiahe area and an important shipping lane for transporting agricultural and sideline products.
