tricot 15th Anniversary CHINA TOUR 2025 officially kicks off in January 2025! Celebrating 15 years since their debut, this math rock band has created ripples across the globe. With exquisite playing skills, unique arrangements, wild stage performances, sweet yet powerful vocals, and lyrics that blend literary depth with rationality as seen in their popular track ‘Do Not Mix the Dangerous’, tricot has truly embodied the essence of ‘Do Not Mix, Dangerous’. Since their emergence, they have also redefined the aesthetic of math rock with a vocal beauty. As Rolling Stone magazine put it, ‘tricot continues to evolve exciting math rock and wraps it in a pop candy coating’. On the occasion of their 15th anniversary, tricot returns after making a mainstream comeback! This concert is undoubtedly the best New Year’s gift for music lovers! (Ticketing for this performance is exclusively presented by ShowStart, with tickets going live at 18:00 on November 16th (Saturday) for Shanghai/Guangzhou/Shenzhen, with Beijing’s schedule to be announced later).

tricot was formed in Kyoto in 2010! The band consists of guitarist/vocalist Ikkyu (Nakajima Ikkyu), guitarist Kida (Kida Motof), and bassist Hiromi (Hiromi Hirohiro). From the beginning, the band was confident that, ‘With these members, we can do amazing things!’ ‘If it’s these members, we can do amazing things!’ In October 2013, tricot released their first full-length album ‘T H E’, which immediately achieved 18th place on the Oricon charts. Subsequently, the band performed at major Japanese music festivals such as FUJI ROCK, ROCK IN JAPAN, and RISING SUN ROCK FESTIVAL, which quickly spread tricot’s fame from Japan to overseas. Their unique playing style, assigning extremely pleasant melodies to unpredictable rhythms and perfectly combining delicate sweet vocals, has created a unique musical world that belongs to tricot! In 2014, tricot embarked on their first Asian and European tour, performing at the UK’s Eden Music Festival as guests of the famous American alternative rock band, Pixies.
The phrase ‘one hit wonder’ is overused, but it fits: who says complex rhythm math rock isn’t compatible with sweet vocals? The stage presence of these petite Eastern girls has swept the eyes of music enthusiasts worldwide. In March 2015, tricot’s second album ‘A N D’ was released, achieving a ranking of 34th on the Oricon chart. In May of the same year, the band’s Asian tour reached China, where they had their first encounter with Chinese math rock band ‘Chinese Football’. In 2017, the current drummer of the band, Yosuke Yoshida, officially joined, and tricot began preparing for their third album ‘3’. On May 17th of the same year, the new album ‘3’ was officially released, again achieving a 20th place ranking on the Oricon chart. Over the years, the band’s tours in Asia, the United States, and Europe have all achieved unexpected success. There is a cool magic about them that will instantly make global independent music lovers fall in love with this band!

Mainstream Debut In 2019, as tricot was about to celebrate its 10th anniversary, the band decided to officially sign with Avex (AVEX). Although under a major record label, AVEX gave them enough freedom and established a new label 8902records under their umbrella. In early 2020, the band’s first mainstream album ‘Shinkuro’ was officially released. tricot stepped onto a broader stage! This was also the starting point of the band’s popularity explosion in China. Just like the innovative work ‘Right Brain Left Brain’ in the album, their creativity can make people’s left and right brains dance together, enjoying both rationality and emotion! It really met the fans’ call: once math rock hits the mainstream stage, it will make everyone explode with excitement! After that, various TV programs, Japanese dramas, and anime theme song creation invitations came one after another. In 2021, the band’s new album ‘Uemakuru’ (Chinese name: Well Done) was released! Among them, the work ‘Inai’ (Chinese name: Not Here) was chosen as the theme song for the Tokyo TV drama ‘Haru no Noroi’ (Chinese name: Spring Curse). Later, the band created the theme song ‘Endroll ni Manekuyouni’ (Chinese name: To Catch the Ending) for the 2022 Japanese drama ‘Liar’ (Chinese name: Liar). The most well-known among fans is the 2022 popular music-themed anime ‘Kodoku Rock’ in China.
Tricot’s lead singer, Ikkyu, composed the character piece ‘Karakara’ for the character Yamada Ryo in an animation, who is also the bassist in the band within the series. Such cross-disciplinary collaboration has indeed brought many unexpected surprises to Tricot.

Good or Bad | Only Now At the end of 2022, Tricot’s fourth major album ‘Kidzume’ was officially released. During the years when they couldn’t go out freely, the band accumulated a large amount of creative material. This album not only satisfies the fans’ listening experience but also incorporates their deepest inner experiences during this period. Whether it’s done well or not, the most important thing is only now.

Perhaps for ordinary fans, math rock seems like an unknown variable xyz, shrouded in mystery due to its complex and variable rhythms. However, Tricot’s music makes complex structures as transparent and clear as crystal, clearly reflecting the pure and natural color of the core. You can feel their sincere and interesting souls in their creations. Complicated numbers are not necessarily the tools to build musical magic, but the most rational cognition can be the bridge to the most emotional expression.

In May of this year, the lead singer of the band, Nakashima Ikkyu, collaborated with Utada Hikaru, Daoko, and six other musicians on a new album ‘Shoumyoukai’ with Shiina Ringo. Such a collaboration points out a new direction for the development of pop music. In early October, Tricot created a new piece ‘Otzure/Visit’ for the new animation ‘You are the Lord of the Underworld.’ As Nakashima Ikkyu mentioned in his message: Two people with different lives start a new life due to an unexpected ‘visit.’ Tricot hopes to express through this work the strength and fragility that Miss Snow, who originally lived in solitude, experiences while challenging ‘ordinary life,’ and looks forward to a different ‘visit’ during this China tour.

Tricot CHINA TOUR 2025 is the best gift for oneself at the beginning of the new year! As lead singer Ikkyu said: Live performance has always been the proof of Tricot’s existence and the best way to present Tricot to everyone.
