Shenguang Mountain, with an elevation of 360 meters and a height of 100 meters, is renowned for its towering trees, winding paths, and rich historical sites, making it a popular destination for literati and poets throughout the ages. The tradition of climbing Shenguang Mountain for the Double Ninth Festival, offering sacrifices, and participating in the God-Racing Assembly has a history of over 800 years.
Over time, the temples, pavilions, and towers have been eroded by wind and rain, leading to their decay. In the 1980s, the temples and altars such as Mochi, Shigu Dawang, Baisha Dawang, and Sanshan Dawang located on the southern slope of the mountain were either renovated or rebuilt to their original state. The Shenguang Temple and other historical sites now only remain as ruins. In 1984, the Thai Chinese, Abbot Zhang Ciguang of Thailand’s ‘Longfu Temple’, initiated and led the fundraising efforts to build the Shenguang Temple, which has now been completed and is open to the public. The park is open all year round, accessible 24 hours a day.Shenguang Mountain National Forest Park in Guangdong
