Zhao Haixian’s Western-Style Building is a unique blend of Chinese and Western architectural styles, also known as Zhao Haixian’s Former Residence, located at No. 15 Jia Shu Lane, Dongmen, Xinghua City.
The Western-style building was originally constructed during the Qing Dynasty and is a three-story building in the Roman architectural style, accompanied by a set of ancient-style gardens including pavilions, ponds, and rockeries.
It is said that during the Guangxu period, a major salt merchant from Yangzhou funded the construction, and a major timber merchant from Jiangdu contributed materials to repay Zhao Haixian for saving his life. They specially hired craftsmen from Ningbo to meticulously design and build the building as a gift to Zhao Haixian.
