The Suzhou Planning Exhibition Hall is located on the east side of Changxu Road. It is adjacent to Wannian Bridge in the east, borders the Xujiang River in the south, and is close to the moat in the east. It consists of three parts: the modern hall, the ancient hall, and the auxiliary rooms along the river. The total land area is 23,400 square meters, and the building area is nearly 18,000 square meters. The exhibition area of the ancient hall is more than 1,200 square meters, equivalent to the size of three basketball courts. The planning exhibition hall is mainly composed of four parts: the completion of the ancient city of Suzhou, the prosperity in the Tang and Song dynasties, the prosperity in the Ming and Qing dynasties, and the highlights in urban changes. There are three exhibition halls: the World Heritage Exhibition Hall, the Chinese Heritage Exhibition Hall, and the Chinese-related Work Exhibition Hall. Through the Pingjiang Map, the Prosperous Suzhou Map, Shantang, Huqiu, residences, famous historical and cultural towns, as well as bridges, towers, memorial archways, windows, halls, pavilions, stones, plaques, etc., it reflects the historical changes of Suzhou. In November, after inspection and approval by UNESCO officials and leaders of the Chinese National Commission for UNESCO, the planning exhibition hall was determined as the main venue for the 28th World Heritage Conference. The decoration scheme inside the exhibition hall of the Suzhou Planning Exhibition Hall is designed according to the specific requirements of UNESCO, and uses a variety of modern scientific and technological means such as multimedia design, optical fiber isolation, rear projection imaging, time tunnel, and circuitous and stacked corridors. As an international conference venue, the planning exhibition hall can accommodate more than 800 conference delegates and is equipped with an advanced voting system, dimming system, and simultaneous interpretation system in six languages. The planning exhibition hall has four functions: exhibition and publicity, consultation and exchange, publicity and education, and leisure tourism. It will serve as a window for Suzhou to expand its international influence, communicate with the world, and showcase Suzhou’s culture and urban planning.
