Tongjue Temple in Taicang City was first built in the Yongle period of the Ming Dynasty and has a history of nearly 600 years. Legend has it that Emperor Jianwen once took refuge here and planted a ginkgo tree (now in Tongjue Temple Park). The name of ‘Tongjue Temple’ was also named by Emperor Jianwen according to the ‘Huangjue Temple’ where his grandfather Zhu Yuanzhang became a monk. Because Emperor Taizu achieved imperial power as a monk, and Emperor Jianwen also implied the hope of restoring imperial power from the identity of a monk. Tongjue Temple has been prosperous in incense offerings throughout the ages. The holy statue of Avalokitesvara enshrined in the temple sometimes shows miraculous manifestations. Good men and women from all directions come here admiringly. Whatever they ask for, they all get responses and are well-known far and wide. ‘Tongjue Temple’ is located on South Ring Road, Fubao Town, covering an area of 63 mu. It is composed of mountain gates, bell towers, drum towers, Heavenly King Hall, Dabei Pavilion, Ten Thousand Buddha Tower, Sutra Depository, Mahavira Hall, pagodas and other halls. The palace buildings are magnificent and the Dharma appearances are solemn. The 66-meter-high pagoda is towering and magnificent, with flowing colors. The clean and elegant Tongjue Temple Park has winding corridors, ponds, pavilions and pavilions, which complement the temple and pagoda. It has become a temple integrating temple gardens and has also become a Buddhist holy place and tourist attraction in the port area. Opening hours: 05:30 – 17:00 from January 1st to December 31st.
