The Ciyun Temple was first built during the Xianchun period of the Song Dynasty. It has been destroyed and rebuilt several times. Only the Ciyun Pagoda remains in its original state and is now a cultural relic protection unit in Jiangsu Province. The pagoda body has six sides and five levels. It is of brick-wood structure and consists of the tower wall, corridor, and tower core. On the fourth and fifth floors of the tower, nanmu brake pillars penetrate directly to the top. At sunset, when climbing the tower and looking into the distance, one can look north to Dongting Lake and south to Maxi River. It is called ‘Ciyun Sunset’ in the ‘Eight Scenes of Zhenze’. The specific opening hours and business status are subject to the opening situation on that day.
