The Hegui Tower, also known as the Foot of the Mountain Tower, was built in the tenth year of Yongzheng in the Qing Dynasty. It is a relatively tall Tulou in Nanjing. As its name implies, the Hegui Tower urges people to carry forward the traditional virtue of valuing harmony. As its name suggests, in the rapidly changing trend, it appears extremely peaceful, tranquil and stable. The Hegui Tower is a rectangular building with five floors.

The thickness of the earthen wall on the first floor is 1.34 meters and gradually shrinks from bottom to top. On the fifth floor, the wall is only 65 centimeters thick. The internal civil structure is regular and there are 140 rooms. There is one main gate in the middle of the building. There are four stairways at the four corners of east, west, south and north in the building leading to each floor.

In the center of the courtyard, there is a schoolhouse of three rooms and one hall. The Hegui Tower is built on a swamp with thousands of pine woods as the foundation. Due to the particularity of pine wood, the Hegui Tower has remained standing after several earthquakes. The open space in the courtyard is soft when stepped on. When a bamboo pole is inserted into the soil, water will come out. There are two wells, one clear and one turbid.

Regarding the origin of the turbid well, it is said that when the well was dug, a woman who was in confinement opened the well cover that should not have been opened.
