Near the Liberation Gate of Nanjing Xuanwu Lake Park, one can observe a hydraulic engineering marvel, which is the National Cultural Heritage site — the Wu Miao Ancient Sluice (named as such because it leads to the city’s Wu Temple). The Wu Miao sluice continues to play a crucial role in regulating water levels to this day. Visitors can observe how ancient people managed water levels here. The area has been refurbished, making the entire scenic spot more complete. Adjacent to it is the Wu Miao Sluice Historical and Cultural Exhibition Hall, which provides detailed information about Nanjing’s ancient water systems, Xuanwu Lake, and the Wu Miao sluice itself. The site is open all year round and accessible 24/7.
