Originally known as Huangsushu Reservoir, Biyun Lake was constructed in 1959 and stands as one of the ten major reservoirs in our province. It is an exemplary natural beauty spot and an exceptional tourist resort. The dam measures 270 meters in length and 32.2 meters in height, with a catchment area of 262 square kilometers and a total storage capacity of 300 million cubic meters. The lake covers an area of 16.8 square kilometers (approximately 20,000 acres) throughout the year.
Biyun Lake is renowned for its picturesque scenery and is just a short 20-kilometer drive from the county town, accessible via asphalt roads. The lake is nestled among a ring of mountains, with azure waters and blue skies, and is surrounded by the fragrance of flowers and the songs of birds all year round. The average temperature here is 3-5 degrees lower than in the county town. The banks of the lake are adorned with competing peaks, and the mixed broad-leaved forests and evergreen coniferous trees are lush and verdant. The lake water is crystal clear, offering a view straight to the bottom.
