Sizhao Misty Rain is located on the eastern bank of Slender West Lake in Yangzhou, facing Xiaojin Hill across the lake. Constructed during the Kangxi era of the Qing Dynasty, it was bestowed the name ‘Quyuan’ by Emperor Qianlong during his southern tours. The original garden scenery has long been abandoned. In the autumn of 1960, a two-story building named Sizhao Misty Rain Pavilion was built on the site. The pavilion faces west with three bays and has corridors on all four sides. Upon ascending the pavilion, one can gaze into the distance and observe various bridges with unique shapes. To the south, there are the Spring Wave Bridge and the Great Red Bridge; to the north, the Changchun Bridge; and to the west, the Jade Plate Bridge and the Lotus Flower Bridge. What’s remarkable is that these bridges are in close proximity, yet each has a distinct design and style. In the drizzle, ascending the pavilion to look into the distance, the bridges enveloped in mist appear as if veiled in a light gauze, creating a hazy and ever-changing scene. The bridges connect the landscapes separated by the lake and naturally divide the lake’s attractions into sections with different characteristics and styles. This forms a unique landscape painting of mountains and gardens, which is why Emperor Qianlong would always visit Sizhao Misty Rain Pavilion to gaze out the window during his lake tours. Today, within the reception center, one can enjoy a distant view of Slender West Lake. The pavilion is open all year round and accessible at all times.
