Baota Mountain Forest Park is located at the north entrance of Nanjing, on the south side of Taishan New Village, Beijing Bridge North Road, covering an area of 1,100 acres. Originally named Jinwang Mountain, it was renamed after the Jinwang Tower, which was built by Prince Yang Guang of the Sui Dynasty in 588 AD during the reign of Emperor Wen of Sui to reclaim Jiankang (present-day Nanjing City).

The tower was destroyed during the Taiping Rebellion in the Qing Dynasty, reconstructed at the end of the Qing Dynasty, and later damaged again during the Liberation War. The park is divided into four functional areas: Forest Quality Development Area, Cultural Exhibition Area, Urban Cultural Exhibition Area, and Forest Folk Tourism Area, and the reconstructed Jinwang Tower has become a landmark building of Baota Mountain.

Facing Beijing Bridge North Road, the park features a giant ‘mountain mural’ made up of 1,600 red sandstone slabs engraved with patterns, covering an area of 1,400 square meters. The ochre mountain face, set against the greenery, has patterns that are faintly visible. Through the depiction of people and objects, it showcases the Neolithic culture of Beiyangying in ancient Nanjing. The park is open all year round and accessible 24/7.
