The Marshall Mansion is located in the Yihe Road Mansion District, a villa built by Jincheng Bank in 1935, designed by Tong Jun, and later gifted to the German Embassy. In December 1937, after the Japanese Army occupied Nanjing, it served as the headquarters of the Nanjing International Committee for the protection of refugees. Due to the luxurious facilities within the building, it was referred to as ‘our palace’ by Rabe and the address ‘5 Ninghai Road’ frequently appeared in the committee reports and correspondences included in the ‘Rabe Diaries’.

In 1945, George C. Marshall, as the special envoy of the President of the United States to China, stayed here to mediate the relationship between the Nationalist and Communist parties. The Nationalist, Communist, and American parties had multiple discussions and negotiations here until the mediation failed in November, and Marshall returned to the United States the following month. The building is a two-story brick-concrete structure with an antique-style hip roof covered with glazed tiles.

The southern part features a spacious courtyard, with paths paved with red, black, and white pebbles in the shapes of eagles, lions, tigers, and birds, four decorative patterns. There are several lattice windows on the courtyard walls. The site is not open to the public and can only be viewed from a distance. The specific business status depends on the day’s opening conditions.
