Chaohu, along with Dongting Lake, Poyang Lake, Taihu Lake, and Hongze Lake, is collectively known as one of China’s ‘Five Great Freshwater Lakes’. It is a birthplace of the ancient Chinese civilization, and Chaohu City is uniquely named after this lake. Rows of willow trees, as thick as bowls at the base, line the lake embankment, their slender branches swaying gracefully in the autumn breeze, creating ripples of green waves; beneath the embankment, aquatic plants such as iris, water chestnut, and yellow iris thrive in a variety of colors, resembling an emerald jade belt that winds into the distance; further along the water’s edge, reeds with interspersed green and yellow sway gently, while white herons either take flight or circle low in the sky… This is the wonderful scenery of the ‘man-made wetland’ seen in the Shuangqiao River section of the northern shore of Chaohu. The opening hours and business status are subject to the actual opening conditions on the day.
