The Gongyuan of Qingzhou Prefecture is located on Wei Street (i.e., Dongmen Street) in Qingzhou Ancient City. In the Ming Dynasty, it was first the yamen of the Shandong Provincial Administrative Commissioner’s Office. After it was relocated to Licheng, it gradually fell into disrepair. Later, it was converted into Yunmen Academy, a place for students to study and pursue knowledge.
Until the fourth year of Yongzheng in the Qing Dynasty, Yunmen Academy became a special “venue for the educational inspector’s inspection and thus acquired the exclusive name of the examination hall”. Since then, this place has always been the gongyuan where scholars in Qingzhou Prefecture took the examination to become xiucai, commonly known as the examination hall.

The “Gongyuan of Qingzhou Prefecture” deep in the historical city has witnessed a great deal of history and culture. It showcases the profound cultural heritage of ancient Qingzhou. Inside the exhibition hall, there are not only introductions to the imperial examination system but also a large number of physical materials related to the imperial examinations. The content is rich and dazzling.
