Zhongyan Temple, also known as Yunzhong Yan, is located within the Wanshi Botanical Garden in Siming District. It is said to have been originally built during the Ming Dynasty, though the exact time remains unknown. The temple covers an area of approximately 1200 square meters, with the main temple structure serving as a viewing platform that offers an extremely broad view. Inside the temple, there is a huge solitary rock inscribed with the words ‘Yuhue’, which was written by Zheng Liangzu during the autumn of the fourth year of the Qing Shunzhi period.

The development history of Zhongyan Temple is intertwined with legends and has experienced periods of prosperity, decline, and restoration. In the fifty-third year of the Qing Kangxi period, the monk Guolao revived Zhongyan Temple. During the prosperous reign of Emperor Qianlong, a monk named Yuanweng resided in the temple, known for his poetry and engaging in literary exchanges with the elegant scholars of the Egret Island, leading to a flourishing cultural atmosphere.
