Dujiangyan Mangcheng Ancient City is located in Mangcheng Village, Qingcheng Township, Dujiangyan City. Commonly known by the local people as ‘Mangchengzi’, it is said to have been hastily constructed by Zhang Xianzhong at the end of the Ming Dynasty as ‘Mangcheng’. The city site is rectangular in plan, with the city walls divided into two concentric circles: the outer circle measures approximately 350 meters in length from north to south and about 300 meters in width from east to west, covering an area of about 105,000 square meters; the inner circle measures 300 meters in length from north to south and about 240 meters in width from east to west.
Mangcheng Ruins is one of the better-preserved prehistoric city sites in the Chengdu Plain. During the trial excavation in 1996, many pottery and stone tools dating back 4,000 years were unearthed. The site is open all year round, 24 hours a day.
