Niufu Ancient Town, subordinate to Da’an District, Zigong City, Sichuan Province, boasts a history of over a thousand years. It was known as Gaoshi Town before the Song Dynasty and was renamed Niufu Town in the early Ming Dynasty. It enjoys the reputation of being an “inexhaustible Niuer Ferry” and has been successively rated as one of the first batch of pilot demonstration towns in the province’s “Hundred Towns Construction Action,” a demonstration town for environmental beauty in Sichuan Province, a national key town, and a national historic and cultural town.
Niufu Town boasts profound cultural heritage, with diverse folk customs such as dragon lantern dance, dragon boat racing, festive lanterns, and Sichuan opera seating performances. It is renowned as the “Hometown of Sichuan Folk Art and Culture.”

Niufu Town was once a famous commercial port and water wharf in southern Sichuan. The core area of the ancient town, Wangye Temple Community, is listed among the second batch of traditional ancient villages in China. The patterns of ancient streets and lanes from the Ming and Qing dynasties remain fully preserved, featuring three provincial-level and nine municipal- or district-level cultural relic protection units, including Guanyin Temple, Yuwang Palace, Wanshou Palace, and Hele Hall.
