Fangshan Global Geopark is located about 40 kilometers southwest of Beijing. It spans Fangshan District of Beijing and Laishui County and Laiyuan County of Baoding City, Hebei Province. The park combines mountains, waters, forests, caves, temples, peak forests, canyons, as well as ancient humans, ancient organisms, northern karst landforms, underground karst caves, Yanshan inland orogeny and rich cultural heritages. It is a concentrated distribution area of geological relics with great scientific significance on a global scale.
The total area of the park is 1045 square kilometers. It is divided into eight major areas: the popular science area of Peking Man Site at Zhoukoudian, the sightseeing area of Shihua Cave karst cave group, the comprehensive tourist area of Shidu karst canyon, the religious and cultural tourist area of Shangfang Mountain-Yunju Temple, the sightseeing and experience area of Shenglianshan Mountain, the ecological tourist area of Baihua Mountain-Baicaopan Mountain, the comprehensive tourist area of Yesanpo, and the peak cluster and waterfall tourist area of Juma Spring in Baishishan Mountain.
