General’s Pass is located on the Ming Great Wall line about 40 kilometers northeast of Pinggu District, Beijing. It is the eastern end of the Great Wall within Beijing. To the southeast is Huangyaguan, and to the northwest is near Qiangzilu Pass. It is very important in military defense and is an important pass in the northeast of Pinggu. A small village under General’s Pass is also named General’s Pass Village.

The section of the Great Wall at General’s Pass was first built with stones by the Northern Qi Dynasty. In the Ming Dynasty, it was rebuilt and watchtowers were added. It is the only stone-built Great Wall remaining in Beijing. The eastern city wall at the pass is still there, and there is an enemy tower on it called Zhenbei Tower. Today, the city wall section at General’s Pass has been restored, and the city tower is relatively flat.

Standing on the city wall, you can overlook the beautiful scenery around and look at the green mountains on the opposite side. The environment of General’s Pass Village under the Great Wall is very good. Among the green mountains, the farmyards look like European villas. After seeing the scenery of the Great Wall, you can choose a farmyard in the village to stay and taste special farm dishes such as millet pancakes.

If you are only interested in the relics of the Great Wall, you can also start from General’s Pass and embark on a journey to explore the ancient Great Wall. Follow the route of General’s Pass – Hongshimen – Bolitai – Sizhoulou – Beizhai. There are many Great Wall relics in this section, and you can see ruins such as passes, enemy towers, and watchtowers.
