Jin Zhongdu City Wall Ruins Park is located in Dongguantou Street, Fengtai District, Beijing. It is an inconspicuous city wall ruins park in Beijing, yet it preserves a section of the Jin Zhongdu city wall dating back over 800 years. This section of the wall is approximately 10 meters long and 2 meters thick, surrounded by iron railings. Without the cultural heritage stele in front, it would be hard to imagine that this mound of earth is the remnant of the Jin Dynasty’s capital in Beijing.
Jin Zhongdu City was established in the third year of the Tiande era of the Jin Dynasty (1151 AD) and served as the capital until the second year of the Zhenyuan era of Emperor Wanyan Xian (1214 AD) when the capital was moved to Bianjing (present-day Kaifeng). It was the capital for over 60 years, marking the beginning of Beijing’s history as a dynastic capital. In 1215, after Genghis Khan’s Mongol forces breached Jin Zhongdu, the area suffered severe damage, leaving only three short sections of the wall scattered between Fenghuangzui Village, Gaolou Village, Wanquan Temple, and Malan Dao in Fengtai District. Within Jin Zhongdu Ruins Park, some ancient-style buildings have been constructed to reflect the original appearance of Jin Zhongdu City, including pavilions, waterside pavilions, streets, shops, and residential areas, making it a miniature version of the ancient city. One can also find old stone steles and stone statues in the surrounding area. The park is open all day from January 1st to December 31st.Jin Zhongdu City Wall Ruins Park
