Liang Shiqiu’s Former Residence

In 1940, Liang Shiqiu and Wu Jingchao jointly purchased a bungalow on the hillside of Beibei’s Zhuwan, which was named after Wu Jingchao’s wife, Gong Yeya, thus becoming known as ‘Ya She’. Ya She is located in the urban area of Beibei District, Chongqing City, between Tiansheng Road and Zhongshan Road, surrounded by Southwest University and the district clinic. Behind it is the first sports field of Southwest University.

Liang Shiqiu arrived in Chongqing in 1937 and moved to Ya She in 1939, returning to Beiping in 1946. During his stay in Chongqing, he wrote the world-renowned ‘Ya She’. According to statistics, ‘Ya She’ has been circulated both domestically and internationally, with more than 300 editions printed, making his former residence in Chongqing, ‘Ya She’, famous. The character ‘Ya’ in ‘Ya She’ is derived from the last character of the name of Gong Yeya, the wife of his co-resident friend Wu Jingchao.

Here, Liang Shiqiu not only wrote ‘Ya She’ but also translated ‘Wuthering Heights’ and some works of Shakespeare. The opening hours are all year round, Tuesday to Sunday from 09:00 to 17:00; all day closed on Mondays.
