The Shanghai Ocean Aquarium is located next to the Oriental Pearl Tower, where visitors can not only admire the distinctive freshwater and marine life from around the world, but also enjoy entertaining animal performances. The four underwater tunnels within the aquarium are particularly popular; walking through them, one can see sharks, turtles, and other marine creatures swimming overhead, offering a panoramic view of the magical underwater world.
In addition to the uniquely shaped fish such as the Australian Archerfish, African Polypterids, Southeast Asian White Axehead Sharks, South American Electric Eels, and Arapaimas, the aquarium is also home to precious animals like the spotted seal, Antarctic penguins, and Chinese alligators, as well as adorable sea horses, the aquarium’s prized treasure – Weedy Sea Dragons and Ribbon Eels. The Shanghai Ocean Aquarium is one of the few aquariums worldwide with a dedicated China exhibit showcasing unique aquatic life from China, including many nationally protected species such as the Chinese Suckerfish and Chinese Alligator.
Furthermore, in the ‘Special Exhibition Area,’ there are science education exhibitions themed around species, allowing everyone to gain a deeper understanding of marine life and enhance marine conservation awareness. Especially for young people, the ‘Marine Classroom’ offers a variety of marine science education knowledge.
